Got milk clothes? A popular fashion designer in Germany has developed a new fabric made from milk and plans to design a collection made entirely from the unique fiber, Reuters reports
Known as QMilch, the unique fabric is made from high concentrations of the milk protein casein. Anne Domaske, a 28-year-old fashion designer and former microbiology student, developed the fabric and has started weaving the material in her well-known clothing line, Mademoiselle Chi Chi.
"It feels like silk and it doesn't smell -- you can wash it just like anything else," Domaske told Reuters.
The QMilch fabric has many other benefits, Domaske says. According to the designer, the man-made fabric is the first in the world to be produced entirely without chemicals, and the amino acids in the protein can also help regulate blood pressure and circulation and counter the effects of aging. The milk fiber can also be used in medicine and makeup.
Domaske said it would take about six liters of milk to produce one QMilch dress, which would cost fashionistas around $200. Domaske's current line, Mademoiselle Chi Chi, is a favorite of celebs like Mischa Barton and Ashlee Simpson.
