While Nicole Kidman recently admitted that she’d been using Botox, everyone’s favorite eccentric actress Helena Bonham Carter (wife to the even-more-eccentric Tim Burton) says she refuses to jump on the facial-immobility-bandwagon.
She says, “I can still move all my face muscles! There aren’t many who can still do that. Age is underrated. I think what’s happening is that directors and the studios want actresses who have natural looks, who haven’t had any work done.”
It’s a strange dilemma: women feel intense pressure to look younger and look ‘their best’, yet directors want actresses who look like a character. Directors don’t necessarily want their characters to always look like Hollywood stars who are avoiding aging at all costs.
She continues, “I know some actresses who have had bits of work done and it’s so good you can’t tell. The problem is that now the high-definition camera can tell, so it’s best to leave your face alone.”
And just in case you’re wondering if she’ll ever crack under the immense pressure, fear not: “Look at Judi Dench. She’s beautiful. Talk about her face being her fortune! She never stops working. That’s what I want for me,” Carter said.
So just in case you're wondering: natural beauty is still okay, and you don't have to strive to look 22 when you're 60. Just sayin'.
