Consumer Reports has a story out today about the biggest scams of 2009. Some of them are pretty interesting – what’s most interesting is that many of them were boldly apparent online and elsewhere as people looked for ways to make quick cash.
The article notes that a lot of the ’09 scams seemed to target people affected by the down economy – some promised people new jobs, others offered money from the government stimulus, etc.
Even now, it’s not difficult to find examples of some of these scams on the internet: mystery shoppers, Google/Twitter from home, foreign lottery scams (a classic).
Certainly there are many that are not mentioned in this list. You hear a lot about Russian bride scams as well as various scams targeting the elderly.
Take a look and see if there are any you may have fallen victim to.
