Have you ever wondered why soda cans are so cumbersome and wide? Okay, probably not, but now, you’ll have the option of drinking out of what Diet Pepsi is calling a “Skinny Can” that is designed to “celebrate beautiful, confident women.” Now, maybe it’s just me, but confident women don’t worry about whether their soda can makes their hand look fat. Moving on…
The new can stands at just over six inches in height and will make its debut at New York’s Fall 2011 fashion week later this month (fall fashion in February…), but it won’t hit grocery stores until March.
“Our slim, attractive new can is the perfect complement to today’s most stylish looks,” said Jill Beraud, chief marketing officer at Pepsi. “We’re excited to throw its coming-out party, during the biggest celebration of innovating design in the world.”
The new look will be rolled out with help from Simon Doonan – the fashion commentator famous for his store window displays. He will unveil a “special collaboration” in New York on February 11.
“Diet Pepsi has a long history of celebrating women through iconic fashion imagery seen in our infamous and historical campaigns, and we’re proud to continue that tradition,” Beraud said.
If you still prefer the thicker can, no worries – a Pepsi spokeswoman confirmed that the old model will remain on shelves.
