Yak Nipple Dresses: Recycling or Replusive?

Liverpool-based fashion designer Rachel Freire caused controversy at London Fashion Week when her models took to the catwalk wearing dresses and bras made from 3,000 yak nipples.

"Isn’t the way we treat farmed animals bad enough without turning their dead bodies into a runway freakshow?" exclaimed Justin Kerswell of animal rights organization Viva.

Even members of Parliament were outraged, calling the curious collection "sickening", "grotesque", "repulsive" and "disturbing."

The 32-year-old designer, who has worked with such celebrities as Christina Aguilera and Courtney Love, proudly defended her fashion choices, saying "They really make you aware of the animal itself."

She says people don't realize how much leather is wasted on a daily basis and therefore believes she's recycling. "I create fashion using material that would otherwise end up on the scrap heap," Freire explains.

Do you think it's grotesque or just being green?
